Auto box coolers

Post by 4-Tech » Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:45 pm

I am putting kits together to replace the potentially fatal (to the auto box) water to oil cooler. The result of an internal leak in the OE cooler is a knackered auto box due to water ingress. The cooler we supply DOES NOT USE the vehicles cooling system, it is an air to oil cooler.

Each kit will have a slim cooler which will fit behind the grill in the driven airstream to improve the cooling effect. The cooler is large enough to cool the transmission on up to a 7.5 tonne gross vehicle weight. The kit will be suitable for DIY fitting with a minimum of tools and will contain all parts required.

CLUB MEMBER Price will be £90 + VAT, delivery of first batch will be early Jan 2011.

The first batch is limited to 10 applicants. I will review after completion of that batch and (hopefully) continue the offer.
We have been told today that due to the weather conditions the air freight of the coolers is still awaiting dispatch from the States so by the time we get them and finish the kit it will be a few weeks into the New Year.

This is also a massive issue on Mercs, plenty of trashed gearboxes

Most Euro, Jap etc vehicles have the water to oil coolers fitted. Whereas the Americans have stuck with the air to oil cooler, particularly on the `heavy duty` vehicles.
It almost seems that the water to oil type gives the autos a built in obsolescence!

Gordon, possibly a stupid question but will the kit come with parts to seal off the old cooler in the radiator sidetank to stop it leaking water when it fails?

I'm having my radiator replaced (at my cost) to hopefully solve this issue on Monday......

I wish you'd posted this a few weeks ago, but it's all in motion now.

Either way, if the new radiator and ATF works and it doesn't degenerate the oil (yet again!) after 4-5 weeks, then you can count me in for a kit....new radiator or not, I wouldn't risk it going again :thumbright:
