Part 3 Continued.

Not much to report today, in between showers i managed to get some more work done on the doors, mainly cutting out and fitting the door lock mechs. I managed to get the locks done on the Hatch side of the trailer but then ran out of the right size of stainless steel bolts to finish the rest.

i did get the internal bulkheads painted ready for fitting so hopefully if the rain stays off for tomorrow i should get the rest of the locks on and the bulkheads in.

Part 3 Cont’d
More door latches

I have never been known to refuse beer :D
I like the use of the truck panels (well that’s what the panels look like to me) …. Was that a weight saving thing or for ease of construction over the Wiggs style trailer?

Hi Ben,

They are truck Panels, Or GRP Panels, I think the answer to you question is really both, they are lighter than a steel /ally construction and to my mind more waterproof with no maintenance. Until i started working with this stuff i didn't realise how easy it was to put together, it really is good to work with ( if you can stand the constant itching of you entire body)

The only thing i did wrong was to attempt to do it too accurately, its not designed for that, you really can make your cuts give or take 5mm. Because of the profiles construction it allows for a bit of sloppiness. Once i got my head around this aspect of it things went a lot smoother.

The only real problem is that they don't make a profile that allows you to do a pointy nose on a trailer, having said that i don't like pointy noses on trailers, yes it makes them more aerodynamic and saves you .001p per mile in fuel but you loose tons of space in the process and at the end of the day you are towing it with a car with the aerodynamics of a house brick anyway !!

Again once i got over the pointy nose stigma a square box with lots of storage seemed like a great idea, only time will tell !

Looking good Chris. Not looking like a box trailer now. It seems to be a pretty quick build?im looking forward to seeing what gets added and where. I've been giving trailers some thought recently and having all sorts of silly ideas. I was looking at a fire engine the other day and I like the roller shutters an the way all their kit is locked in place but can be slid out. They also use LED strips to light each compartment.
