DSC?

Post by hangman3 » Sat Feb 03, 2018 4:01 pm

Hi.
Ive noticed a few times in the past that when cornering to the left at about 45mph a couple of times that I thought I felt a vibration from what felt like the front drivers wheel. recently I have noticed it a little more frequently. Today when it happened, I noticed that the DSC light came on briefly as it was happening.
Any ideas?

You're driving too fast

It could be a number of things- tyre pressures low, tracking, steering angle sensor.

I wouldn't really call 45 round a medium bend on a B road too fast. it is usually well with in a comfortable driving speed. The tracking has recently been checked.
From memory though, it is usually on a wet road.

Who did the tracking? Was it done on a hunters machine in tight tolerance mode? If not - chances are your tracking is out - unless it did it before?

Ive only had it about months now & ATS did it within weeks of me owning it.
What is a Hunters machine?
Tyre pressures are good.

Hunters is the make of machine that is the best Way of aligning the disco. It aligns all 4 wheels to make sure all the angles are correct. Tight tolerance mode means the suspension is kept within 10mm (from memory) rather than the usual 25mm (from memory).

Once that is done you need to reset the steering angle sensor.

I have been out twice now on the same road since starting this thread but in dry conditions. one time I drove as I normally would & the second time I pushed it a bit, & on neither occasion did I experience the problem. So would this indicate the tracking issue? as I can understand that being wet that it would be more likely to loose traction slightly/

It might do. But it is hard to tell. I know mine did similar some years ago and I never really did find out what it was - but during the course of the usual maintence regime (suspension arms replacements etc) it went away.

But the steering angle sensor would be an easy check - assuming you have the right diagnostic kit. IID for example.

Both front arms were replaced just prior to me buying it.
Excuse my ignorance but remind me again, what is IID?

It’s a diagnostic tool from Gap Diagnostics.

http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

They aren’t cheap - but worth it. But you could also go to an independent- such as our own Bodsy - who is mobile. @Bodsy
