Defender more hi tech than D3

Post by countrywide » Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:01 pm

I have discovered a new feature on the Defender. The more it rains, the wider the sweep of the windscreen wipers gets, I think they must have a mechanical rain sensor. Unfortunately last night the calibration seemed to fail as the drivers wiper actually left the right edge of the windscreen and was going past the pillar into thin air.

I just need to calibrate it again, but I am impressed that it has such a feature

I've looked at the latest up-to-date service information on TOPIx for the Defender and it says you need to perform a zero-point calibration procedure to the spindle motor. The BCU ECU needs to be put into service mode to ensure that any adaptive offsets are cleared before the procedure is carried out.

Although it is not necessary to leave a door open and put on the hazard lights, you will need a suitable diagnostic equipment and the special-order calibration tool (p/n LR2009772) pictured here:

  The hammer is the main tool :thumbright:

Del, I looked but I don't think the goat is a approved accessory.

I went out with any in his Defender during the week when it was pouring with rain, the wipers on it are really clever, the longer you're out in the rain the more water it clears of the windscreen. Why don't all cars do that!

Air, Hair Lair Stu. Well, some do you see. Now when one drives the Full-Fat there are 2 notable phenomenons. Firstly, Hitchlock the butler takes care of all those tiresome raindrops before one goes near ones vee-hickle and secondly, even the weather knows not to make a mess of one's windscreen in the first place. See, now THAT'S the kind of respect one commands with one's RR. ;)

Tee Hee.

Dom.

PS. FFRR wipers are almost as bad as deafener ones. Noisy and scratchy effers. Not a patch on the D3 ones. :(
