Repossessed

Post by Stu » Sun Sep 23, 2012 9:49 pm

Hi guys, we are looking at buying a repossessed house. All of the gas, electric and water has been cut off. I just wondered if there was any advice before I go round switching things back on.

The previous owners have taken some stuff with them, but it doesn't lookalike they've done anything malicious ie kicked the kitchen doors in etc. Although they have taken most of the rooms doors :?

Should I get a plumber, sparky etc in to check things?

Yes definately, and probably a full check/survey as some malicious things can be done. Obviously a lock change including the double glazing if you progress.

I suspect the mortgage company will have changed the locks anyway. But it's on the list.

The full survey won't tell us anything about the Gas electric water etc.

You probably find the mortgage company agents turned it all off. A simple leak test on the gas would be a start, but get a service done as you don't know when it was last done anyway.

Water is a bit easier as you can see it ;)

Most surveys organised by the mortgage won't advise on services condition unfortunately, which I find crazy.

They only want to know if it's going to fall down. It still has NHBC guarantee anyway.

Stu, you will probably find the the utility companies will request that you have the relevant tests carried out before they reconnect :thumbright:
