New Wheel Arches
My husband has very kindly brought me a set of colour co-ord arches for my birthday.. how difficult is this? I've been looking for how to guides but haven't found much. My questions are:
Do I have to take the wheel arch liner out or the wheel off ( not sure if I could manage the wheel on my own)
Is it true the front lights have to come out?
I ordered some new clips as I read replacements maybe needed, these have just arrived and now I have itchy hands to go and attempt it!!
Any help or tips would be great

Re: New Wheel Arches
There's a hidden screw that goes through the wing that's only visible with the lights removed. You'll also need a complete set of male/female fixings for the wings as most will break when you remove the old ones.
Don't try and remove the female part that's yellow and fitted the the wings and doors, if you do you'll mash the paint, push them into the cavitys.
If you have rear mud flaps then it's advisable to put plenty of WD40 on the screws and to allow a screw driver access remove the wheel.
Been there, relitvely easy but time consuming.

Re: New Wheel Arches
Clare, as long as you have a very stubby or a right angle pozidrive screwdriver for the mud flap screws (needs to be short to get in between the body and the tyre), and a wide flat blade screwdriver and a pair of pliers for pulling out the wheel arch liner connectors, it's all fairly straight forwards.
The connectors that hold the wheel arches to the liner are really black plastic rivets with a centre part that can be removed. If you have a good look at one, you'll see that on opposite sides of the head there are two flat slots recessed into the overall head. In between these is the centre pin that has been driven in to hold the rivet in place. Carefully place the flat of the screwdriver in this flat spot and gently work the blade under the centre part - once in you can gently twist the screwdriver and the pin should start moving free and raising. Alternate the sides to bring the pin out about 5mm or so, then use the pliers to grab the edge of that pin and pull it out hard. Occasionally the head breaks off, but more often than not it's perfectly re-usable even if it looks like its been chewed by the dog. Once the centre pin is out, use the screwdriver under the outer edge of the remaining clip and it should pull free without any effort now the centre is out.
The remainder of the clips are mainly ball and socket types, which require the famous grab and tug hard method of removal. Beware though that you limit the movement of the trim when it comes free - my rear wheel arch covers had a sneaky screw holding on the rearmost corner to the car, and there may be similar up front.

Re: New Wheel Arches
Thanks for all your hints guys!!
I can now gladly report that after 3 hours they're changed. Had a bit of a struggle pushing the 2 black things up to get the lights out and one of the screws on on the the mud guards was stiff but apart from that it was a piece of cake..
If I can do it anyone can!!

Re: New Wheel Arches
Put some Copperslip grease on the headlight sliders, you'll be removing them regularly.....trust me
Next you need a colour coded tailgate handle, colour coded fog light bezzles, colour coded wing mirror covers, and colour coded headlamp washer covers.......just like mine
Come on, keep up

Re: New Wheel Arches
What a really thoughtful and generous husband Mr Clayton is to fund a set of colour coded wheel arches!
I take my hat off to you sir! May the generosity continue!
