Re: Gauging Interest: Battery / Winch Systems
how can you pose if you can't see the pouch?
surely those with their bits in a try stuck out front of their D3's are doing the posing?
I recall some years back that the chairman of a national one make club (DOC) admitted that the winch on the front of his motor was not even wired in, it was just for show
takes all sorts

Very interetsted in a winch but what are the options when you have a non winch type ABar and non winch type Mantec plate? Presumably replacing them with winch type versions which will substantially add to the cost.
'Endeavour' - Discovery 3 SE - sadly now gone but to a good loving home

Phil,
For a external winch you'll be needing to cut the bumper, winch sump guard etc. I think the internal one will work with a stand sump guard and only a small slot cut for the wire/plasma.

Gaz,
If you just want it for po'zin then just bolt a fairlead on your bumper with a hook hanging out and save £1200 quid!

Re: Gauging Interest: Battery / Winch Systems
Sara might approve that!
I've decided that hidden is too restrictive. If you're going to go for a winch then I want a winch that I can use in most circumstances.
My understanding is the on a hidden winch install the fairlead is mounted on the bumper but is attached by two bolts to the steel work. Now I wonder how those two bolts will cope with a upwards pull or a sideways pull, surely that will put a lot of pressure on those two bolts? 2.7 tons of car pulling two bolts that sideways that aren't designed for that, they're desinged to keep things in compression.
In addition I think having the rope (whatever sort) hidden away must make it difficult to get the rope back onto the reel in a neat and manner?
I think for the costs involved it would be silly to restrict the use.

Re: Gauging Interest: Battery / Winch Systems
I'd be interested but I think I'd prefer external so I can see what's happening, prefer the 12 version plus plasma and it would need to fit with a standard RLD bash(ed) plate.
Oh - and I'd need the money and a bit of a wait as my fooking retina fell away again on Tuesday and I'm just out of the hospital and playing at pirates again!
