Re: 8 Years today............
... with your luck Del mind the D5 Volvo engine. the Aux belt is not shielded from the cam belt and if it fails it buggers the engine IMHO a bit by design. Volvo blame the people who fitted the belt and the peeps who do the belt blame Volvo who fitted the recall part....

Well that’s blown my Wannabe Wallander dreams. Might just stick with my old Honda Jazz. Or buy Mark’s BM. It should be in my budget.
Or if the D5 goes bang strip her & sell the bits. I’ve got form on that front.

Why not sell the Disco, go travelling and then just buy something when you get back?

Re: 8 Years today............
That’s the plan, it’s just a question of what. Fancy a change, and my priorities/needs/wants have changed. No idea what at this stage but will address that when finished globetrotting. Maybe Volvo, Skoda or back to BM.
Got more pressing matters, finding a hotel in Singapore that has a wall separating the en-suite, rather than glass!!!
Not sure I’m going to have that problem in Mandalay, Rangoon, Vientiane or Hanoi.

Re: 8 Years today............
I've been considering what next - the BM won't be another 7 year car, like the Disco was.
Not that I'm changing anytime soon, but like to keep some ideas spinning.
I have thought electric (Not that I think that is environmentally the right solution but it might be the personal one. ) As I don't really know my usage pattern I downloaded the iPace app (no its not a serious contender!) which tracks your usage and gives a better idea of number of charges etc.
I've done a couple of thousand miles with it and I have yet to have to charge mid journey - though I suspect it assumes you charge as required at each destination - which is probably not possible at the moment 99% of the time.
But the big failure of pure electric is range - and when you want to go to Europe for example - range of 200miles gets me to the coast. Then what? Find a charging station? Then I want to get to say Austria? 800miles or so is 3 charges.
Until the infrastructure is in place, the only real option for electric is hybrid. And then you are lugging around a lot of lithium that half the time is empty?

Re: 8 Years today............
Electric is of absolutely no use to me, with a 10 hour 600 mile regular trip that would be turned into an overnight trip. Not going to happen unless they drastically improve recharge rates. Nothing is going to beat petrol or diesel for me.

Re: 8 Years today............
I agree Del - its no use to me either - but was interesting using the app to see what journeys I do - it just falls apart when you want to do more than about 200miles in one go (Ok Tesla's do around 300-350 - but they are serious wonga!)

I have been thinking kia. 7 year warranty cheap and lots of toys.
I have also thought supercharged xj as the stupid option
