Re: Side steps or bars
Set of Bodsy's sliders would do the trick - the LR sidesteps are made of cheese and won't cut the mustard when push comes to shove

Re: Side steps or bars
Depends on what else you want to do. If you are going to keep the D4 just on the road then side steps good enough (but see caveat below). If you want to be a bit more adventurous then go for tree sliders that will do the same as steps but offer better and stronger protection off the tarmac.
Its not about being extreme offroad, the LR side steps are just that...very good at being steps. when it comes to any type of offroad use. they bend very easily.
Caveat - Tree sliders bolt straight on after removing the plastic side bits - thus being in one piece to go back on at a later date. The LR sidesteps keep the plastic trim but you have to cut into it. This means you can't remove them and sell separately.
Drop Bodsy a PM - he may have tree sliders available and they may even be the same price as LR OEM sidesteps.
hope all that makes sense...

Trying to keep on road sounds as though it'll be off roading in a month. Lol.
The tree sliders are excellent as steps and for helping to stand on whilst you clean the car!

Re: Side steps or bars
I've got a set of Bodsy's sliders on mine and the kids (and occasionally my folks) couldn't be happier with them. It means easier access for them in an out, less chance of car park marks (especially if you park in offload height) and, if you do ever decide to give green laying/off roading a go, you have the extra protection. They were also really useful yesterday while I was trying to get a bed frame strapped to the roof.
