Last weekend we went canoeing on the upper River Severn near Newtown. Stayed at the Dolau Inn, Mochdre just outside Newtown. Small campsite and a b&b pub. Very friendly couple run the place, food great and very good value. I stayed in the b&b and rooms were very comfortable and the campsite is small but very nice. And dogs welcome.

Thoroughly recommended if you looking to stay in the area. And it's also a very attractive part of the world.

Had a cracking drive back by driving down to Hereford and then Gloucester via small A roads. Much more enjoyable than the motorway but would not have been as good dragging a tin tent :D

Only downside is that I drove up on Sat am so I missed all the flooded roads that the others enjoyed Fri evening.
