Repair Satnav drive
My satnav is faulty
I get the message 'please insert a map disk' or something similar.
I've just taken it apart, no noticeable dust in there. Cleaned the lens and put it back together. Still same problem.
I've heard of people changing the lens and drive mechanism, but I can't find a supplier for what bits I'd need to change.
There is a guy on eBay selling repaired units with new mechs. Anyone know where I can get the bits from?

I have the same problem, but come to the conclusion the sat Nav was a bit poo and I'd prefer Google maps with traffic reports and alternative routes any day of the week

Have been using the iPad, but tbh the screen is too big. Prefer the satnav screen, but I know it's flawed.

Re: Repair Satnav drive
Bods, I don't know the answer to your question, but suspect if you find out it'll prove useful to many in future.
Many of the dvd/cd/bluray drives I've repaired for various (thankfully very patient!) people, have suffered from the grease on the lens guide track (the one that follows the groove from the inner to the outer edge) drying out or getting a build up of dust. If you get to it before the driver circuits burn out trying to move the lens assembly, there's a good chance of a fix.
I use 100% isopropyl alcohol with cotton buds to utterly clean all the old grease off, then a smear (less is more) of white grease (small jar from a cycle shop for use in bearings) to add new lubrication. Seems to be successful most of the time. I've tried silicone grease, and that's just too sticky, so puts too great a strain on the servo motor (yes, a two wired servo - weird things look like normal dc motors but are so not!). Vaseline or other petro based greases will react with the nylon, and the gears will shatter, so light white grease is the best I've found yet. If you know of something better please let me know!

Re: Repair Satnav drive
I'm having difficulty finding anything other than the spray on white lithium grease. Dom, do you have a link by any chance?
