Disco 4 Boot Oddity...

Post by Neild » Sat Mar 11, 2017 9:36 pm

Evening all,

Long time no see

Question, the boot release on the Disco4 is acting very oddly. It feels 'slow'.

With the key fob release and the manual boot handle, we only get a very small electrical movement for the first or second time - then nothing.

Could this be simple it need a lube or is it the solenoid in the release?

All help appreciated.

Hope everyone is well.

Neil

I seem to remember Dom had the same issue (Or may have been someone else my memory fades!) and replaced the actuator - but a lube might be in order - ISTR a replacement actuator is about £40 from your favourite sales site :thumbright:

Thanks Mark,

Is there a way to tell it is the actuator and nothing else?

Could it be an electrical / power issue?

Neil

Not sure to be honest - I think the only real way is to expose it - which means removing the boot cover. :headbang:

I'd think it would be unlikely to be electrical as electrics tend to work or not and certainly don't normally slow down unless the battery is low but that sounds unlikely.

I'd suspect the same as you guys that the actuator itself is sticking and maybe just some lube will help. I'd get it sorted asap though because you don't want it to stop working.

I'm sure an identical scenario was posted (I think Mark might be right and it was Dom?) and there was even a slo-mo video of the actuator Vs the new one.
I may have made that up, but it feels like it could be true so I'm sticking with that

Tis true - but searching for it is a challenge as there are so many posts about the boot actuators

That in itself probably answers the question!

Yes, that could well be the issue. Sounds like it. After two or 3 cycles though the thing doesn't even work. Assume the little electric motor in the actuator could be gone.
