Disco 3 front noise

Post by Cosmo1 » Wed Jun 13, 2018 6:08 pm

Getting a distinct wah wah noise from left front. It does it power on or coasting, makes little difference turning left/right. Noise is like uneven tyre tread. Tyres are all ok, new discs, pads and calipers, new bottom suspension arms, drop links etc. Nothing felt on steering or under braking. Couple months back noise was very faint on smooth surface. It's more noticeable at 25/30 mph. Went to local garage yesterday took mechanic out run, but he commented that if it was hub bearings it would be constant noise increasing with speed. Said to get front hub and take it from there? Not to happy with blind approach. Any advise please, any mobile mechanics around Scotland?

My first thought would be wheel bearing but not increasing with speed is odd.

Not sure where you are in Scotland, but first choice would be Mike Park https://www.facebook.com/MMPLandRover/? ... 3726017872 - not mobile AFAIK.

Thanks for reply, I'm located Ayrshire, when I say noise doesn't increase with speed, it probably does but I can't hear it. Could it be wheel bearing in early stages of going u/s

Update on my problem. Replaced with new hub and back to better than normal. Bearings don't always sound same when worn. Slight problem was getting wheel speed sensor bolt out. Good heavy hammer and bearing came out quite. When finished had check brake pad warning and found sensor wiring must have broken, now fixed and all ok.
