Rear Tail Gate

Post by Thumpermike » Wed Jul 04, 2018 7:50 am

Morning All,

Help required again!! I tried to open the rear tail gate on my D3 last night and it won't open. All of the other doors open fine but the tailgate won't move. It was working fine on Monday. Any idea's?

More than likely the cable that operates the catch has broken.

But first, can you hear the motor running?

If yes probably cable (From memory) if no, it could be switch in the handle.

If no, then try opening it from inside the with the dash buttons. (I think you can by pressing the two at the same time @Bodsy will know as will many others @Stu )

Or if its programmed to open with the LR button on your fob try that. If it does almost certainly switch on the boot handle.

If its cable, then they are a sod.

One a D3 it’s both lock and unlock together to release the tailgate.

As Mark says listen to see if you can hear it.

You can get a new parts but fitting can be.... interesting!

Thanks for the prompt replies.

I don't think i have the lock and unlock switched inside, do all D3's have this? but i have tried this on the key fob and it doesn't budge. I can't hear any motor working in the tailgate when i open and shut the doors.

Would this suggest the door switch?

Your help is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure all D3's have the buttons - by the hazzard switch.

You key fob may not be programmed to open the boot.

But if the dash buttons work and the tailgate switch doesn't it is the tailgate switch on the handle that is knackered - easy enough to replace but get new torx screws as they tend to rust in.

If the motor doesn't operate then its probably knackered - if the motor operates and the tailgate doesn't open its the cable. Both as Stu says are interesting to sort.

I’ve done quite a few replacements when locked shut, not too bad once you have the knack. Flippin hot work in the sun though!

Well I've got the door to open using the two buttons on the dash, I've ordered a new switch. So I'll fit that and fingers crossed!!
