Hi hoping someone can give me some advice!
I have a 2007 disco 3 Manual and the coolant temp gauge kept on dropping down off the scale and driving it for a while and then a random misfire more of a hunting in idle would start when pulling up to traffic lights etc. I learned to dip the clutch as late as possible to stop this issue.
And now the red light on the dash has come on under the coolant light, scanned it with my diagnostics and looked at the live data and the oil temp is sitting at -13, I take it this is just a sensor?
Any advice would be a great help
Thanks in advance

Yes sensor - if you are quick and have lots of rags and trays and don't mine getting oil up your sleeve you can change the sensor without dropping all the oil out - but is cleaner to just change it anyway!

Thanks it’s due a service soon anyway, Two birds one stone and all that!
Do you reckon it could be related to the water temp problem as well?
Thanks again

Yes as they’re linked on the same signal lines.
Change the oil temp sensor and that should also fix yo7r stalling problems as the car changes fuell8ng strategy when it thinks it’s too cold.

Coolant temp and oil temp problems
Hi, I had the similar issue. I had occasional erratic water temperature on the dashboard. Then I decided to monitor the oil and water temperature on my OBD2 app. I found that the oil temperature was reading erratic and at times even -5degC when the engine was warm.
On inspection of the oil sensor I found the sensor had been damaged and temporarily repaired, connections was loose and therefore giving erratic readings. After i changed the oil temperature sensor everything returned back to normal. Both oil and water temperature was working uniformly and the car was driving much better.
Was quick to change it out.
Below a pic of what the oil sensor condition was. Previous owner made a temporary fix and bad one as well.

Thats a result!
As for the repair, that's fine to get you home, but should have been fixed pronto - especially given its not a hard job!

Re: Coolant temp and oil temp problems
In case it helps, for anyone changing this themselves I managed to change mine without dropping more than a teaspoon of oil.
- The engine must be fully cold to keep the oil slow.
- You'll need to be in a position to get both hands at the sensor, so that eventually you can cover the mount hole with your thumb to hold the oil back
- You should have an oil pan and rags ready (for Murphy's intervention).
- It goes without saying that bigger thumbs will make this more successful
- Make sure the new sensor is in easy reach as you cannot move away once your thumb is stemming the flow.
- Carefully use both hands to undo the sensor, pressing it firmly towards the oil pan so that even when it's fully undone it stays put. It'll start dribbling a bit of oil.
- Hold the sensor steady with one hand and get your thumb ready, then quickly pull the sensor and block the hole with your thumb.
- Line up the new sensor with your thumb and swap back; this is where I dropped a teaspoon of oil as I wasn't quick / accurate enough getting it back into the hole immediately.
- Use left hand to guide the end and start refitting the new sensor.
Regards, Dom.
