Hi,
I have just replaced for new the pads, discs & shoes on the rear (all Mintex). When adjusting up, I find that when turning with the torque wrench I get 46Nm on part of the turn, nearly 70 on another part & at one small part 38. Is this ok or should it be even all round? When all adjusted, it feels to very stiff when turning by hand as if binding. As well as the new parts, I have had to renew the gears in the module as on my first attempt the shoes disintegrated & caused the module to jam (fake parts I guess from Ebay) & in turn snap a tooth off one of the gears. Are there any special things to do now that the Module has been taken to bits?

So 2 questions to answer here please.

I've no idea - but @Bodsy might have a better idea.

Maybe, but I don't have the option of contacting him. Could you let him know please?

I should have done that in my previous post, but I cocked it up. Should work now especially if I do it again @Bodsy

Is there not something in the guide on giving the brake drum a good bang all round with a rubber mallet to make sure the shoes release properly?

Read somewhere else that if the binding isn’t even then the shoes could be misaligned, perhaps during fitting, but that could be wrong.

Just adjusted mine for the first time and it was pretty even all the way round.

On that note, for the 6 months I’ve had the car the hand brake has always made a ‘neeeeeeeeeeewww’ sound when being applied, and figured that was just normal.

Now it’s adjusted, and wow! Almost silent.

Now makes me wonder if I’ve been hearing it ‘screech’ all this time!

Thank god for Bodsy.

Please help... I'm losing the will to live.
So... I had the dreaded screeching noise when trying to apply the EPB. So... my EPB activator thingy has been changed for another one (second hand but from a trusted seller). I've also fitted new brake shoes. But, no change. The screeching is still there and the parking brake still won't apply. I've got MOT in a couple of weeks so starting to get desperate. Can anyone suggest what I could try... PLEASE. :D

Well it's been a long time coming and there's still loads to do, but I've made a start on making the Bodsy Brake Bible into a Video tutorial.

It may end up being a bit simple for some people, but once I've done all the chapters, I'll no doubt end up doing a much much shorter version that just includes the key operational aspects for those that are a bit more au fait with brakes etc.

Anyway, the first video that shows the unboxing of all the parts I'm planning on changing is here:

The second Video has just gone up. This episode explains about safely jacking up of the Disco (same for RRS) a couple of ways and the use and position of Axle stands.
Here:-

I'll update this thread with the relevant links to the other videos as I finish editing them (it honestly takes forever...) but if you want to subscribe on YouTube, that should also alert you to new videos as the come along.

thanks to those that have provided feedback so far, I hope to be able to contain as much as possible in the next chapters of the Brake Bible.

Any questions or feedback, please let me know.

Cheers

Ian

This small experiment sheds light on the intricacies of the D3's systems and how they handle unit conversions. It's fascinating to see how even seemingly minor details are accounted for in modern automotive technology.

So, for those wondering if the Bedding in mode thresholds change with metric units, the answer appears to be no—at least in the case of the D3.
