Rear Tailgate Support Cable
The rear tailgate passenger support cable snapped today and shot out. Not a massive job to fix and cost is around £20.00, but the wire strands are bloody sharp, so wouldn't want to be hit by the end of it. I will check the other one while I am about it.
Guy Salmon Portsmouth have ordered me one for tomorrow.

Blimmin eck Andy - what have you had on there to break it?
They seem so robust...mind you the tailgate latch actuator cable looked over-engineered too

Re: Rear Tailgate Support Cable
The last thing SWMBO put on it was the dog, but he only weighs about 26kg. I will post a photo, but it looks like it was the end which locks into the mechanism has come snapped.
I think it is a fatigue snap where it goes into the mechanism.

Re: Rear Tailgate Support Cable
Are you talking about the cables that support the tail gate when in th eopen position or the ones that operate the latch?

Re: Rear Tailgate Support Cable
It's a bit like a bike brake cable, the end of the wire goes into a lump of metal which is then slotted into the mechanism. It snapped just at this point, probably from the constant bending at this point.
I will take a photo and show you. Took the old one off, takes about 3 minutes as it is just two bolts and a clip on the tailgate end.

No, the other cable held it up otherwise I expect it would have done.
