I'd guess most likely will be the carbon piston ring. You could probably turn it around, but better to replace it.

I'm off to go and refit my compressor this morning!

Thanks, I priced buying new compressor and self fitting and having it done under warranty and decided that while still going to be about £300 in paying for 50% parts and £50 excess that warranty was cheaper and booked her into garage :cry: .... again.

I'm going to ask to keep old compressor though, then replace piston seals, dryer and other seals and if it tests and runs ok sell it to recoup a wee bit of money.
