Around Europe

Post by z4cAtS » Tue Aug 21, 2012 9:42 pm

Hello all,

On our trip around a few countries, currently in Regensburg, SE Germany.

A couple of photos:-
Farthest point east, just leaving Prague.

Crossing the Danube in Regensburg.

1220 miles since leaving home, averaging just under 28mpg so far. (75mph ish cruising speed) :D

Salzburg tomorrow, going via the more scenic route.

Cheers, Paul

A good view of 'Eagles Nest'
Image
A bit 'touristy' but an interesting place.

And a neat place at the airport in Salzburg.

This is the Red Bull museum Hanger-7, some rather nice planes and old F1 cars.

Passed the 1500 mile mark today. Showing 32.6mpg and 49mph average. :)

Went to Dachau concentration camp today, a somewhat different place and very thought provoking.

Eagles nest looked much more impressive in the film! :-)

Eagles Nest is a bit of a let down tbh, the ride up in the bus is pretty good though, is a bit tight in places.

However the salt mines in Berchtesgarden are worth a visit just for the slides alone.
Two wooden rails about a foot apart, with you and family tobogganing down, gets a bit hot on the rump by the end.

The two of them drop around 25 - 30 metres in total. The Health & Safety wombles in the UK would have an anurism.

Now moved on to Nuremburg for a couple of nights.

I went to dachau last year and thought it ok. Apparently there are other camps that are less touristy and are "better" for it.

We were originally planning to go over to Auschwitz, but the extra time and distance didn't make sense with the days we had available.

Maybe next time without the youngest one. SWMBO is already thinking of going to Italy and such like, not to mention a tour of the 6 flags parks in USA.

Phantasia Land near Cologne is small but really well done, some nice rides and a few twists on some.

All in all 2350 miles, worked out the final mpgs to be 28.2, it dropped a couple during the fill I didn't put any 2/ in.

Cheers, Paul
