Well I've been out on a country lane road test and, I'm absolutely delighted! I had £300 LR spots previously. You barely noticed them being on over the HIDs. The light bar however, wow. It's fab, really lights up the sides as well as down the road. I think the HIDs still provide greater distance but the light bar makes a massive difference. I'm very very happy!

As it's not road legal, I assume that you have a switch in the cockpit to enable them be switched off? Otherwise your car may not pass the mot and if stopped by the boys in could result in a fine.

Damn, all this talk about spotlight makes me want my D3 back, I'm sure they won't look as cool on the Beemer
Do you think Clare will notice if I bling up the D4?

Well, just a guess, but I can't see how a 120W light bar can be legal for use on the road - and if it's not type approved it's not legal.

I'm sure they wouldn't be road legal. Mine is wired into the LR OEM spot light wiring so there is a switch on the dash. The switch allows the lights to come on with high beam or not. So I'll just have mine off normally. It will pass an MOT like that.

As far as I know, they are CE marked and any aux light below 1200mm is legal as long as it can't come on with dipped beam (unless designated fog light).

The wattage as far as I am aware is not relevant unless it is a fog light or comes on with dipped beam.

Type approval only counts for the existing vehicle components or replacement components on the vehicle as a whole, not accessories. Only a compete vehicle can get type approval.

We had to go through this on some of the conversions, it also makes a difference if it is done before or after first registration.

Edit: forgot to mention roof lights are above 1200mm which is why it is different.

You might find there are other rules as well - only mounted in pairs; certain height etc.

No idea for sure but technically that is what needs to be considered over here.

No rules on aux lights as they are only on when not dipped beam, so the rule is basically about dazzling other road users. Fog lights (and daytime) have to be a certain distance from ground and from side of vehicle as they are also viewed as marker lights.

Personally I think it would be foolish to use them on road as you might come across somebody and blind them before you have a chance to dip your lights, but you also get fined for that anyway.
