Light Bar

Post by clement » Sun Dec 21, 2014 12:22 pm

I have been given a 24inch LED light bar for my birthday, (tomorrow ),
Just been playing about with it to see the best placement for it, tried on a spare front grill I have so not to drill the original, I'd be intrested in people's oppinions as to the position, or should I put it on the bumper for more stability,.

Hi Mark,

I have mine mounted to the lower edge of the upper tube on my bull bar.
It is a solid mount & there is no virpbration. You may find that grill fitting results in flicker from vibration once the engine is running.

I put mine on the bull bar because of convenience. The results are pretty good but I am working on mounting it above the windscreen on the front roof rack mount points. I feel that would make much better use of the light pool.

Good luck
Nick

I did try looking for a similar D2 light bar that fits to the front expo roof rack mount points, :thumbright:

If I'm honest I think it looks a bit naff. It looks too obtrusive.

What about mounting it in the bumper just above the number plate?

If I honest I'm not completely happy with the position, I'll try that stu, anyone know where I can get the front brackets for the expo roof rack, might try and make a bar to mount it high level. :thumbright:

Expo brackets are pretty rare. You could ask BCC if he still has any but I think he got rid of all he had.

To be honest though, you could probably make something that would better suit your needs as the expo brackets just use a captive but in the rails. So you could just bolt into that.

Maybe we should have a play when you next come over. We can get Andy and Richard on the case.

Might involve a lot of Gaffa if Richard is involved!

For stability, you can make a bracket off the angled frame behind the grill.

I'd be cutting into the grill to put the light flush with the front of the grill and make it harder for the sCroats to rip off. :thumbright:

I think putting it flush is definitely the way to go.

That would mean cutting quite a lot of the grill out and when centred it looses the LR badge.
