Hi All,
I'm thinking of adding some mobile radio to my D3. I've had a good read through the forums and it seems there are two bands typically used - CB Band and PMR466.
Which is the best one to go for? Or should I look at getting both?
Thanks,
James

Re: Radio
PMR is great for shorter distances and plenty of cheap handsets around.
If you install a PMR external aerial it gives much better range, but I think it's then classed as business use as you'll inevitably want 4w power. But there are many ways around that with some tweaks.
CB is used for longer range generally. Get one that has UK and EU bands just in case you get stopped, but generally, we just use the same cpbands wherever.
Midland Multi 78 is pretty popular for a CB.
You can get cheaper aeriels, but Sirio is the aeriel of choice.
Of course, then you'll want to be looking at a split charge system so you can keep the Radio powered when you're sat waiting without the engine being on

Re: Radio
Thanks for the tips! I've been looking at one of these:

It's no longer manufactured unfortunately so i'm having second thoughts, but I like the fact that I can hide the radio away and just have the display and mic located somewhere convenient.

Re: Radio
There's a few different versions of a similar thing. My Yaesu has a separate head display unit that's sitting on the dash.

Re: Radio
I forget the name of mine, but it has a front facing speaker - so when its wedged in between the passenger seat and the centre console I can still hear it without a remote speaker.

Re: Radio
The TTI has a front facing speaker too, although I plan on hiding it under the dash (I've removed the top glove box and turned it into a kind of 'equipment bay') so not sure i'd be able to hear it in there. Good tip though, thanks!
