Laptop power

Post by Bigcarpchaser » Tue May 23, 2017 9:47 pm

Evening all....been a while I know but been busy!!
Clare and I have a new arrival, no, not another disco but our little boy Rory. He's a cute little chap, born in January and I can't quite recall where the last 4 months have gone!!
It was all a bit easier the first 3 times I know that much...am a bit knavkered but Clare is being a trooper and doing all the night stuff so I can get some kip and go to work. Anyway.....that's why I've been away. Disco is still fine...hasn't broken yet :)
So, onto my important stuff.
Have me big CAD laptop, need power while "off grid" Output 19.6v@10.3A 200W. 17" HP Zbook.
What's the best/easiest/lightest way of getting a couple of extra hours battery life?
Have looked at all the available power packs and none of them are up to the job as far as I've been told.
Thinking maybe I'm in the realms of lipo battery's and an inverter but I've really no idea and I'll end up blowing myself up if I try and make it myself.
Can one of you geeky blokes point me in the right direction?
If I can't work something out then I'll send it back and swap it for something a bit less powerful and a bit rubbish :?

If you just want a few more hours then I'd suggest a second battery being the easiest option. My laptop has two batteries in it. The normal one and a smaller one that will run it for about an hour. This means I can swap main batteries without having to turn it off. Not that I need to as I get a full days use out of it normally.

It's all "built in" and a bit of a pain to change. It's not something to be doing at the side of the lake :D

Depending on which ZBook it is, most have the option of a 2nd battery which clips on underneath and is sort of wedge shaped to make the keyboard slope towards you a bit. My older ZBook and both my Elitebooks have this. It's a 8 cell thing which means I can run for 12 hours, perfect for data hall work where I'm not allowed to plug in to anything.

Failing that, something like this.

"Most"... not mine lol.
The Maxoak doesn't put out enough amps, shuts down around 4.5 as does the Lizone 60,000....as do all of them.
My Lappy needs 10.3A.
Balls...downgrade to 15" I think

Car nearby to where your fishing? Just use a 12v to 19.6v laptop supply and plug into the aux battery 12v socket.

Sounds like you need a small generator, ethanol one would be good although not cheap!!!

Not sure it would cope with 200w Ian?

Lol..I think I ruled that option out on the strength that I wouldn't have room on my fishing barrow.

Seems like HP are up for building me a "special" so fingers crossed, won't have the problem to contend with now
