Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
Anyone got a simple set of instructions for removing the intercooler?
Or is it just a question of removing the plate and undoing a couple of bolts?
EDIT: The link is IC Removal Guide Anglefire's guide to replacing the intercooler

I seem to remember that it isn't a simple Sunday morning job.....
I also can't remember who said that, but I'm sure it's a bit of a pain in the arse

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
To get the intercooler off took me about three hours - including tea and swearing breaks....
You need to:
1. Take the grill and headlights out
2. Undo at the least the front part of the wheel arch 'eyebrows' - they're held in by a screw behind the headlight
3. Take off the front bumper skin - the plastic bit - remember the washer fluid tank is in there so get a bucket ready to catch the fluid when you disconnect the hose. Also remember to unplug the front fogs / PDC if you've got them
4. Take off the metal bumper itself
5. Take off the small metal 'bashplate' (in front of the sump plate) plus the two little radiator shields - the one on the nearside has a metal skin for the FBH pipe.
6. Take off the plastic guard cowl that is in front of the IC - there are two 8mm nuts near the headlights. The nearside one is a complete to get on and off - just be patient
7. At the bottom of the IC are two small push in 'U' clips - remove these (although one of mine was already broke)
8. Undo the IC hoses either side and pull the IC off.
If you're not fitting a new one then cover the IC outlets and soak for a long time...... my original is still soaking some weeks on....
And to quote Haynes 'refitting is the reverse of removal........'
I had one sheared bolt I had to use a stud extractor on and I already had some spare plastic trim clips.

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
SB, I'm glad it's a simple job!
If your's is still soaking after several weeks, I wonder how long mine will take? Looks bad.
Wonder if a new one would be easier - well quicker at least - I also wonder if the warranty will cover it? Doubt it though

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
You won't get covered by warranty for a cloggeed I/C but a new one to act as a spare whilst the old one is soaking is a god idea.

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
I put a new one on - cost less than £100 - local Indie LR dealer had it in pretty much next day - genuine LR part.
I'm just letting it clean itself - when the current one clogs up then I'll swap them over and start over again - no worries.
The new one made a difference in terms of the fan not coming on anywhere near as much (like I haven't heard it since whereas before I could pretty much make it roar at will...) plus increased get up and go.
For the time it took - well worth doing - plus you learn more about how things hang together. Go for it!
Warranty wouldn't cover it.

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
It guess it might have done if I'd spotted it being bad before, or just after getting it, but after nearly 6months and getting it dunked at least twice myself................
I'll see about getting a spare. Mind you the radiator itself is nearly as bad....

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
Bidding on a new one on Ebay at the moment, hopefully I win it and can think about when I can find the time to change it. When the rain stops, for a start!
