Chassis Repairs - MOT fail due to corrosion

Post by spotter » Sun Jan 27, 2019 8:16 am

Morning all

I have posted this on the other side as well as a bit perturbed by it. Don't post much on here these days as the Discovery has been pretty well behaved for the last decade or so!! Big surprise on Friday that it failed its MOT due to corrosion! None of which has been picked up on previous garage visits nor on its Pre-MOT" MOT" last week!

I have done some surfing but can't find anything about needing to weld up Discovery 3s! I can't find anything about trouble spots either. Anyone any clues or is it likely to be terminal - which is the implication I have been given.

(I have not seen the car yet as it is currently in a compound post failure and I am hoping it will be put on a ramp for some photos Monday Morning. There is certainly nothing visible other than the normal patina to my eyes but I don't crawl underneath, I only peer.)

Many thanks

Simon

Must admit, I've never heard of a D3 having that bad corrosion - in the end I guess it can happen, but not having found it at a pre-mot test, you have to wonder whether the pre-mot or Mot is at fault?

Any indications as to location?

Will have photos Monday morning hopefully. It is corroded through in the area where the seatbelt attachments are, not sure what exactly what that is - ladder chassis or the monocoque bit?

Interesting. Monocoque I would say - lower ones presumably. Should be a simple enough fix I would have thought.

even as an ex Defender owner I have never had a car with a hole in it before!
