Wheel nuts

Post by SlowJohn » Wed Jan 30, 2019 3:09 pm

Hi all,
Any advice on replacement wheel nuts? LR? OEM? Aftermarket?
I’m ready for another set. Ideally quality rather than low cost.

Advanced factors would probably be my first port of call! Though I think the last set I bought were genuine LR via ebay!

You could also try LR Parts (lrparts.net) - they are sometimes a little cheaper.

I use them but they are only up the road from me.

Thanks gents.
Am I missing something? Why can’t you buy kits with 16 normal and 4 locking nuts? Why would I want 20 in a set?

One possible reason is some (myself included) prefer not to use locking wheel nuts so gives options.

I have one locking wheel nut but that's on the spare on the swing out wheel carrier.

Any particular reason?
I did think about that but I’m not a very trusting person Image

One reason is they are a bitch to remove if they seize on - which is common.

Second reason, they are not often nicked as lifting a disco is not that easy!

Same reasons as Mark gives - if the locking nuts seize the're a pig to get off - especially if you're in the back end of nowhere with a flat.

I live and park in Liverpool - I work on the basis that if the scallies want the wheels they'll get them regardless.

It's the under slung and carrier mounted spares that are most vulnerable - so I use a guard and a locking nut on them.

Thanks again folks.
I got some from eBay claiming to be genuine Land Rover (with a price to match) but I’m not convinced.
What do we think?
